Logistical Problems with Reincarnation and Past Lives

There are many compelling cases of reincarnation and past lives that can't be explained. Dr. Ian Stevenson and his protege Jim Tucker have researched and documented many cases. See this Discovery Channel documentary for 3 compelling examples. It's very jaw dropping. No skeptic can debunk them. I was spell-bound when I saw this. See all 5 parts and you will be amazed afterward for sure.

Part 1 of 5:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz-fOKoehX8

However, there are logistical problems with it. Let's suppose it's true. Then there would be other problems:

1. Why do some have past life memories, but most don't? Do only some reincarnate but not others?

2. What if a fetus is born, but no "souls" want to enter it? Then what?

3. Wouldn't all souls want to be born into beautiful rich families with a good life? Who would choose to be born in a war-torn country in poverty? Do souls even get a choice? If not, then who chooses? Some intelligent forces or random ones?

4. Since the world population 30 years ago was half of what it is today, where do all the "extra souls" come from? Are they new souls? Are they souls from other planets or dimensions? Or from animals and insects? If from animals and insects, then where are the souls replenishing the evolving ones coming from? Is there a first life? Or does our past have no beginning?

A lot of reincarnation believers use the "souls coming from other planets/dimensions" explanation, but that sounds like a convenient copout since anyone can just say that. But even if we take that explanation, then where are the souls replacing the migrating souls coming from? Wouldn't there have to be new souls entering in at some point, unless the population of souls always remained the same?

5. Since there are far more insects and plants then humans and animals, then would that mean that in your next life, your chances of coming back as an insect or plant are far infinitely greater than coming back as a human? If so, then no one would look forward to their "next life" would they? Or do humans only reincarnate as other humans or higher? Can an animal reincarnate as a human? If so, then couldn't it work the other way around? Buddhists believe so, but then again, you'd have the logistical problems above.

    1. 1. Answers: If you do, remember everything about your past life, then it will only distract you from your true reason for coming to earth: to learn new experiences. For example, if in the past life you don't know what it means to live without love, you will learn on how to experience it. It's all a new skill you will add to your spiritual advancement. Just like playing a game, you will not master anything if you keep on getting "credits" to select "continue" the game. You need to reset it from zero and when you master all the challenges in that game, your soul will naturally pick for tougher challenges. It's part of your leveling up to the next level.

      2. Answers: It doesn't work that way, I believe there is a mechanism in which a soul must pick a certain fetus to repay karma, learn new things. I believe more souls are in queue to get their turn in getting new experiences.

      3. Answer: Noone chooses for you. You choose for the life you have now as your soul is craving for the life experience that you have now. You can get into this body based on the level of karma, a random unique ability that you earn from your past life, or vice versa it is based on what experience you lack. It's a natural evolution of your soul. Again, just like the universe, "everything" evolve, including stars, blackholes as we speak now.

      4. Answer: Well, if you think this small little earth is the only source of soul, then your mind is sooo narrow minded. That's discounting the theory of quantum that there are multi-verse not universe. On this universe alone (this realm), you can learn that your mother earth has been exist for five billion years and the universe?? Hmmm ... and again, how big is the universe??? Hmm... And how long would a man live? 70 years? Uhm 100 years? Does it sound make sense that yourself is so insignificant being in this universe and you don't take part in this universe evolution?
Do you also believe after this live you will stay eternally in heaven or hell? That's not only not fair, but also against the very basic rule of physics, nothing stays the same in this universe.

Population of soul? You can't even answer the size of this universe, the number of planets, cosmic objects. It's just too naive that you think soul only come from this planet.

      5. Answers: Depending on your experience needs and karma. If your soul think you don't need to downgrade your form from human into animal, then your soul wouldn't chose so. But, there could be a case, when your soul feel the need for it. For example, a man who slaughter other men like animals, one his soul comeback to the other realm, he will feel the pressure over the karma he did, just like the the principle of Archimedes, you press a 10 bad karma, you get a 10 bad karma. You will have to pay it anyway, because that's the way the physics work, the way the Source set the system.
You kill 10 people like animal, then you will have to pay to get the same feeling of being killed like animal 10 times. This is not only just, but makes sense

    2. Evolution Magic
You have good answers for points 1 to 3, and 5, but for question 4 it's a non-answer, because any planet that has life still has life multiplying on it, so we are back to square one on that which the question was. "Where to all the extra souls come from?" Your answer was quite rhetorical and defensive, so therefore it's not very credible for me. I also might add that there are many different versions of re-incarnation, some believe human to human reincarnation and many claim to be some famous person. You also seem to be attacking other people's beliefs about God and heaven etc.

    3. Not an expert on the topic, but in my opinion I believe there really isnt more than one soul. It's the same soul being expressed in different forms, and if needed can manifest into infinity.

    4. Here is a problem with the argument that the soul chooses the body or life in order to learn new lessons through the process of reincarnation. The problem is abortion of the fetus-- does that not subvert the entire process of reincarnation such that now some agent independent of the soul has made the determination as to whether or not that soul can continue as a fetus into a birth. So, at what point does the soul enter (is it not at the time of conception) and what happens then when the fetus is aborted?

    5. So people that lose children or tragic accidents "crave" it? People in Rwanda or Darfur for example "crave" the experience? You must live a fat and happy life.

  3. I am leaning more and more towards the belief that reincarnation is a real possibility. I have the belief that the universe is made of energy and there is a definite possibility of our energy going on to another source when this body dies. And the problems that you list above does not debunk the reincarnation theory at all in my opinion. 1. As far as the memory question goes, we can't even remember things that happened in this lifetime. We don't remember being an infant, or 2 or 3. Heck, I've looked at pictures from only 10 or 20 years ago and can't remember when or where it was taken. On the flip side, look at the many many stories of people recalling past lives, and having things they recall verified. 2. Maybe the soul comes before the fetus. There would be no pregnancy if there wasn't a soul in line to take it over. 3. I don't believe we pick our earthly family and life, but rather we remain with souls/energy that we are already connected to. Otherwise, you'd be right, everyone would just pick to be born to the richest, famous people here. 4. This is one question that I had as well and don't really have a solid belief on an answer. Two of the possible answers I came up with are two things you already said though...Either the possibility of a first life, or energy from animals possibly being able to reincarnate into humans are the two best ones I could come up with. 5. I believe that our soul/energy can actually evolve, but it transfers into a "higher" being than it was previously, not the other way around.

  4. One thing I find problematic about reincarnation and it is the fact that the body still seems to count for nothing. Let me explain myself using, for example, the issue of animal abusers. If I am cruel to animals and in the next life I am reincarnated into a dog that gets beaten. Isn't that cruel to the BODY of the dog who suffers from the cruelty caused by the human? Taking into accout that the suffering dog has no memory of his previous lives as an animal abuser, his suffering has no meaning. I imagine it can be argued that it is the SOUL that learns the lesson but that throws us once again into a dualism that keeps on disregarding the body, which also matters.

What would happen if you remember your previous life? Wouldn't it be scary to remember how you struggled your last breath? Even a peaceful death still hurts, what if you have tragic death?
What would happen if you keep remembering your previous life?
A king may want to reclaim his throne? A victim of brutal homocide may only find themselves living in misery and may start thinking about revenge since early age.
I believe the system is set that way for the best, I believe it's the learning process that is unique for every individual that is worth taking with your soul one you die. It's the process of enrinchment of your soul. Otherwise, you 'd never feel the emphaty, the symphaty for the live of others.

I am cruel to animals and in the next life I am reincarnated into a dog that gets beaten. Isn't that cruel to the BODY of the dog who suffers from the cruelty caused by the human? Taking into accout that the suffering dog has no memory of his previous lives as an animal abuser. <<< Has no memory about past karma doesn't mean the soul doesn't learn new experience.
You forget one thing, if the dog isn't harm by human, and he lives in the wild life, isn't it a more wilder experience? Don't forget the nature teaches us the cruelest way, the bestiality, the instinct for survival, the instinct for whoever is stronger wins. Even a lion has to suffer, struggle to survive. She has to kill every day for a living, for the life of her children. A bacteria has to eat on something, which could be other bacteria (antibiotics). Even the smallest living being in this earth teaches us about killing others to survive.
I believe there is a lesson for each of this killing to be learnt by each soul.
At this point we have to be grateful that we manage to advance our soul so we are born in a much more sophisticated vessel: the human body. It's only our job to make the best use of it, including our brain.
Don't you think it's more beautiful, when you see the stars, you know that you are part of them that you evolve like them? That one day, you may never know that you could be living in somewhere between those stars? In a different form of vessels?
I believe God is so rich in His creation and we are not that insignificant to only taste His great creation in just 70-100 years?

  9. Another challenge to reincarnation is the timing of when the soul enters which I am led to understand is at the time of conception. If this is the case, and the woman aborts so that birth does not take place, then does this not subvert the entire reincarnation process by which souls have chosen the fetus into which to enter in order to learn certain life lessons.

  10. Your knowledge in reincarnation is impure. Buddhist teachings explain all the answers to your points.
1.) Some people do have knowledge to their past lives because there are 5 possible outcomes. When you are reincarnated, you go through a process. Some escape this process, as nothing is 100% efficient, similar to a chemistry experiment. Another reason is they are of a higher being who are sacrificing their position to help others, similar to the teachings of Jesus' embodiment. Another is that they used to be a high-positioned diety who was reincarnated. It is also possible that some people had become very pure in their previous lives, meaning their next life, they will have more potential, similar to the teaching where one lives life with more luxury or lives longer due to their build-up of energy in the past lives.

2.) When a fetus is life-less, this would be due to the mother/father. It would be karma due to acts in their past lives affecting spirits so much they have revenge by preventing souls enter the fetus, therefore the soul enters another life where it is most related to.

3.) People would be born into lesser backgrounds because they would have been spoiling their future life due to their past life, eg- very wealthy past life, where they would spend so much that they are affecting their past as well as present.

4.)There are so many souls, you could not think of a number that big. They are reincarnated as animals or spirits of high or low, until they have become balanced with good or bad. Only then are they eligible to become human. This is also why some children see things we cannot see, because they are still balanced/more pure than us, as they are still not infected with greed, bad thoughts, etc.

5.) That is partially correct. We reincarnate into insects, animals because it is either a punishment or what I prefer to call it, a balance. People are reincarnated because we are either bad in the past life, or bad in the past lives. This is why some spirits are good, some are bad, Some are good because they know bad is wrong and some are good because they have been bad in the past lives and make up for it by gaining energy through isolation. This is why some areas should be left alone if there is activity, but usually there isn't if they are good.

We only know we are wrong in our lives when they end and we go through the process where your life adds to your memory, then it is hidden once again when you become A HUMAN. Not animals, insects, spirits, they know their history which helps them balance themselves by knowing their past faults. When we become humans, we forget. When we are humans, we cannot mentally see as well, as our vision is blurred by bad thoughts and such.
